Winchester White Box - Wow - Dirty!
Well, I put 500rds of WWB .45 through my pistol in around 2 hours at the range on Saturday.
I must say, this has been - by far - the dirtiest ammunition I've shot. It shot wonderfully, no failures of any type, spot on accuracy. Can't complain for the price of factory loaded ammunition, either. That said, cleanup was (by far) the worst I've dealt with. Even the reloaded atlanta arms ammunition seemed 1/2 as dirty! As I'm soon to start reloading, since apparently some ammunition leaves a mess far more so than other types, what is the best way to avoid it? Is there a certain type of powder that burns more completely/cleanly? I'm glad the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger got too sore to continue shooting, I had intended to go through 1000rds! |

Yeah, I agree. It seems to be accurate and reliable, but pretty dirty. For target, I like using Blazer Brass and Magtech. They are cheaper and no dirtier.

I've heard a lot about dirty ammo lately from all mauf. This is why they make cleaning stuff for you weapons. If for some reason you are too much of a tight wad to purchase gun cleaning stuff then take an old t-shirt some wd-40 (as a mild solvent) and some motor oil (for lubrication) to it.

Normally it takes me about 20-30 minutes to clean out my pistol, but today it took an hour because of the different ammunition. I made a post trying to see if this was a common experience, and also to let people know of my experience. I didn't make a post with the intention of attracting people who feel the need to be an ass and contribute nothing of use to the thread. You seem to have been around here for a while, I'd have expected a little more. |

I don't consider WWB excessively dirty but maybe thats because it and blazer are the only factory ammo I have ever bought. I use unique in my reloads and don't have a problem with it.

I went to Bullseye up north on Saturday - nice range - but the people there.... yikes. I had to yell at half a dozen people for pointing guns at myself/my buddy while we were there. Lots of irresponsible/obviously green shooters there.
Other than that, I've generally gone to American Marksman - the range isn't that nice, but the staff stay on top of people pretty well. At Bullseye, the staff came in and kept moaning at people about random things, but they never put their foot down. Beyond the webbing on my hand hurting, I left because a group of 3 punks in the lane next to mine were waving the gun around like idiots, and wouldn't listen when I asked them not to. It's the better range, but I'd suggest checking out who's in the lanes before you sign up. |
