Stainless steel .30-06 and .270?

Hey yall,

I'm going on a guided hunt on the 25'th. I just got an e-mail that said I have to use stainless steel ammo.
*Edit* Lead Free (whew!)

I can see lead free (California ), but stainless steel? Where would I even get S.S. rounds?

Can anyone clue me in? I'm thinking this must be a typo.

Yeah(?).
I thought you should be able to use copper or steel.
Don't know.

I think I would email him back and ask where to get it, Im sure he would know a few places since that is what they require. I have never heard of stainless steel ammo but I am going to guess it is going to be expensive.

I called them and they said non-lead ammo. Doesn't have to be Stainless. (whew!)

Now I have to go look for non-lead ammo... Anyone have experience. We are going after Roosevelt elk and mule deer.

stainless would be pointless.

now requiring non toxic metals would make sense for those worried about lead. but you could use: copper, tungsten, aluminum, steel, brass and im sure i left some metals that can/are used in bullets out. I dont see any advantage of useing stainless steel over regular steel except the obvious rust issues, but the stainless steel shouldnt be exposed anyways since a steel bullet will wear out a barrel very fast. Most steel bullets are either a sabot or copper jacketed. i did buy some steel jacketed 7x57 mauser ammo that had a lead core that was most likely made during a time when copper was scarce (like a war) they dont have any head stamp on them or other way to identify when it was made. But i havent seen any modern ammo that has steel in contact with the rifling. I would not shoot ANY ammo that has steel or any other hard metal in contact with the barrel out of any gun that i care about.
i might shoot it out of an old cheap military surplus rifle if i got the ammo really cheap, like in the case of my 7x57. Most of the ammo i have found locally was about $0.75 a piece or $15 per box of 20. When i found that steel jacketed lead core ammo it was $20 for a ammo can of 200 and at that time i didnt have any other high powered rifle so shooting that gun was my only option, and since it was just for plinking i didnt need hunting quality ammo. But for a hunting rifle that i need to be accurate i wouldnt even think about using steel ammo
