12 ga. Ammo report!

For those of you who fall into any the following groups: 3-Gun shooters, Recoil sensitive shooters, shotgun for home defense users, etc.

I have been using the Wolf 12ga. 2 3/4" slugs now for several months, and I can finally give my opinion on them. It's wonderful!! The 3-gun matches I shoot usually incorporate several slug stages, and while I am not recoil sensitive, slugs can take a toll on you, and can affect your time and accuracy.

I bought a case of the Wolf Slugs from Midway MidwayUSA - Wolf Ammunition 12 Gauge 2-3/4" 1 oz Rifled Slug Box of 5 and have completely happy with not only its shootability, but its accuracy, clean burning properties, and reliability. This is a great slug, and has been spot on accurate to 50 yds. It burns clean also.

Because of the fact that it is a slower slug than you will find in the Remington and Winchester lines, it is much friendlier on the recoil aspect. They claim ~1400 fps. and it is probably close to that.

I would have no hesitation loading this in a home defense shotgun application, as its accurate and extremely reliable. Also discovered, this shotgun ammo is manufactured at Lapua factories.

Just thought I would pass on a good find. Its still fairly inexpensive as far as slugs go.

I like the Brenneke style hybrid slug that Wolf uses but have you tried Remington Managed Recoil slugs yet? Its a 1oz slug doing only 1200fps. The recoil is basically the same as a trap load. My BPS and Rem 1100 both seem to like this slug. Accuracy has been pretty good and the recoil very mild.

I also use Brennke slugs and have no complaints. They always keep nice groups and the recoil isn't that bad.

Slugs in a home defense setting though?

I have tried them, and I like them. The point was $4.39 per box, compared to $6.99 per box. And by the case, they come to $3.59 a box of 5. I shoot enough that price is a major point.

And absolutely, I would use slugs. I live in concrete block home. Slow, heavy slugs!

LOL, makes sense.....I live in a subdivision with vinyl siding homes, so slugs are not my friend.

The brennke slugs (Brennke K.O. slugs, the ones with the attatched wad) are like 1.99-2.99 a box at Dicks' Sporting goods....thats why i bought them to begin with, the accuracy and recoil is just an added bonus

Man I wish we had Dick's stores down here. All we got is Sports Authority, and they are all going Anti-Gun.

That's a very nice offer. I appreciate the gesture. Midwayusa should keep me stocked for awhile though.
