However JBHorne, buying ammo in my underwear does seem to have it's own appeal.
I usually am ordering ammo in 1000-2000 quantities at a time, so the benefits are much higher than buying a-box-per-week plan if you can stomach it.

Yup, in fact, you can still stay in your underwear and shoot it too! All you need to do is order some subsonic 22 ammo online, order massive blocks of ballistic gel (or make your own -- which I have done before) and sit back and relax in your favorite chair as you watch Chuck Noris and reimmitate his moves with a suppressed .22! All from the comfort of your own home!!!

(Admittedly, you would have to have an FFL which would allow the suppressor and P22 to be sent to your house, but you still *could* do all of this from home, too!)

I have four boxes of that stuff. Three are ball and one is lead soft. 200 rounds total.

Purchase from Dick's Sporting Goods
Price for 1000 rounds of .45 ACP (15.98 per box of 50 + sales tax) = $343.57
(You have to buy 20 boxes of 50 each to make a total of 1000 rounds.)

That is $343.57 / 1000 = 34.4 cents per round.

Purchase online from Georgia Arms
Price for 1000 rounds of bulk .45 ACP = $270 + $22 shipping = $292.00

That is $292.00 / 1000 = 29.2 cents per round.

The difference is 5.2 cents per round, allowing for rounding.

That may not seems like a lot, but it all depends on how much you shoot. On a thousand rounds, the difference is a savings of about $52 by ordering bulk online. My wife an I shoot a lot, so 5 cents a round is a significant figure when looked at in terms of yearly ammo consumption.
I checked out the prices at Georgia Arms. It seems as though Wal Mart can still compete, to some degree. Let me explain:

At Georgia Arms 500 rounds cost $117.50 + shipping and handeling $19 for a grand total of $136.50, this is without adding tax.

At Wal Mart 100 rounds of WWB cost $26.something, we will round up and say $27. $27 x 5 (to get 500 rounds) equals $135.

So I can get my ammo from Wal Mart and save $1.50.

Now I did do the math. It seems that I would save from Georgia Arms if I bought 1000 rounds or more. I would save $23. It is a savings but not much. Thank you for your suggestion. I am sorry if our questions have upset you.

I generally go for the 50 round boxes because that is the only way I can get it by the case for the case price. It is also the only way I can be sure of being able to get a case or two or more at a time.

Life's too short and there just isn't enough ammo in stock at the typical Wally World to stop by on the off-chance that they may have a box or two this week. Bulk is the way to go when you need lots and lots of ammo. I also tend to overstock ammo at home as a hedge against inflation. This stuff is not going to get any cheaper.

Factory reloaded. "Canned Heat" is just what they call their bulk packaging of 250 rounds or more.

I have shot 1000s of rounds of their 9mm, 45 ACP, and .223. Has gone bang every time I pulled the trigger and is just as clean as Remington UMC, WWB, etc. It is great stuff for punching holes in paper.

Check them out at Georgia Arms

You figured in shipping on the GA stuff, but what is sales tax on the WalMart ammo? Here in Ohio we have a 6.75% sales tax, so that adds another $9 to the WalMart total. I don't mean to split hairs, but you have to weigh ALL costs for both options.

Personally, I buy all of my pistol ammo at WalMart and order all my rifle ammo online. I like to buy .223 in bulk, so the Sportsman's Guide 4-Pay plan works out well for me on big (3000+ round) orders of the Wolf ammo I shoot in my ARs. I buy my 6.5 Grendel online because nobody local carries it. My .308 is a wash... I just pick it up where and when I need it or find a good deal on it.

And I am saving ALL of my brass...

Well I tried to be fair. If you notice I did not add tax for either Wal Mart or Georgia arms. I also rounded the price of ammo at Wal Mart up. Heck, if I wanted to get detailed, I am sure that I spent over $1.50, that I saved on the ammo at Wal Mart, on gas just to get there. Gas prices are threw the roof. But my point was that I have not been so lucky to find major savings online. So, I am asking others to please share the wealth and let us know where we can go.

Just to let you know my dilema: not to long ago there was a thread about the best places to get ammo online. I investigated every site that was suggested and did not find any savings compared to Wal Mart. Now, there intentions were not to try to show sites that could beat their price nor did they claim to do so. This is not to say that good prices cannot be found online. It just so happens that the sites given on the thread where more expensive or maybe equal to Wal Mart. So, what did I do? I went to three different Wal Marts, we have many around where I live, and bought every WWB (100 count) that they had; I ended up with a 1000 rounds. I do believe that people know where to get cheap ammo and I would greatly appreciate it if they could better inform me.

On a side note, I do notice that if I go 1000 or more rounds at Georgia Arms then there would be a savings. I will look into getting ammo from there soon. Thanks NC Dave!
