They sell 50 round boxes locally for the same price as the 20 round boxes?

I feel you man. I have looked on websites that others have posted on here in the past about where they get their ammo and none have beat Wal-Mart price for WWB and it didn't matter if you bought 500 or 1000 rounds the price was still higher.

For the new posts on this thread that say otherwise, please tell us where to get cheap ammo online consistently. Share the wealth, because up till now I haven't found it.

+1

This has been my experience.

170/5 = $34 so it could come out to $34 per 100 round box

100 round box of same ammo at Wally = $26.00 to $29.00
5*29= $149.00
Pltybx, +1

I was hoping you would correct their error and better expalin your point. This is what I have seen also.

Thanks Prof. I just need to know I'm not crazy.

My GF says otherwise.

Thanks for all the comments XD brethren. Hopefully by discussing this more in detail we can find the Holy Grail of ammo purchasing.

Let me type slowly....

From my example using .45 ACP 230 gr rounds

Purchase from Dick's Sporting Goods
Price for 1000 rounds of .45 ACP (15.98 per box of 50 + sales tax) = $343.57
(You have to buy 20 boxes of 50 each to make a total of 1000 rounds.)

That is $343.57 / 1000 = 34.4 cents per round.

Purchase online from Georgia Arms
Price for 1000 rounds of bulk .45 ACP = $270 + $22 shipping = $292.00

That is $292.00 / 1000 = 29.2 cents per round.

The difference is 5.2 cents per round, allowing for rounding.

That may not seems like a lot, but it all depends on how much you shoot. On a thousand rounds, the difference is a savings of about $52 by ordering bulk online. My wife an I shoot a lot, so 5 cents a round is a significant figure when looked at in terms of yearly ammo consumption.

I bought 2000 rounds of 9mm at walmart when they were (maybe mis-priced?) at $15 per 100. That was less than a month ago.

Consider it this way: You can drive to the store and pay tax, or sit in your underwear at home and pay shipping.

I usually by surplus .223/5.56 online from Welcome to Ammunition To Go! because it's $310 per 1000. Anyone find it cheaper (not Wolf!)?

Well obviously the cost difference is greater when buying in 50 round increments which I never do. I always purchase 100 round box increments. I guess I'll have to look harder at some prices or maybe I'm just lucky to have a walmart that likes to keep that price down.

However JBHorne, buying ammo in my underwear does seem to have it's own appeal.
