Who knows what they will do with this new list of "suspects"! It's no longer a 4473, so they can sell it or post it in the paper, whatever they feel like doing. How would you like to open the paper someday and see "John Smith bought a rifle and it was later used in a crime" with your picture and address ?

Question for the original poster ... What do you do for a living? (in general terms)
Sirius and Cannibul you both have great points. Something like this should be a black eye for the ATF. The only thing Wal-Mart is going to track at best are strawman purchases an I would venture to guess not very many firearms sold by Wal-Mart are used in a crime. The ATF can already track this type of information and it's already illegal.

I've already stopped shopping at Wal-Mart the clothes are paper thin and don't last two washings. Yes, the food is cheaper and Wal-Marts model to continually drive cost down by making the vendor expose there cost structure then decide how much money they get which drives Wal-Marts profit up. With this type of model you know someone is going to cheat "Cut Corners" somewere or they will go out of business. Hence the downturn in quality.

It's really sad because I like Wal-Mart, but they are forcing me to consider other stores due to quality. Wal-Mart is rapidly going from quality to crap which drives the cycle of buy it and throw it away and buy again vs. buy it once. My generation is the opposite of the greatest generation when it comes to spending and saving. I wonder if part of it is due to the crap manufactured today verses 20 to 30 years ago.

When I do shop at Wal-Mart it's for small stuff and I'm under $50. Most people I know can't shop at Wal-Mart and spend less then $100 per trip.

I'm putting more money with the local gun store for everything. He sells ammo at 5% above cost which is same or cheaper if I buy it by the case then at Wal-Mart and it's better then WWB.

BTW the local gunstore had 10 new firearm purchases yesterday when I was in. He showed me the log of purchases and this month so far has sold over 60 firearms not including yesterday. He can't keep XD's or S&W M&P's in stock. He had one XD SC 40 and one M&P 40 left was it. He had about 5 Glocks, several 1911's a few revolvers and Sigs, 6 bushmaster AR's and a few shotguns. He thinks May and June are going to be his biggest months with the stim package and is trying to get more firearms in. They go out just about as fast as they come in.

Thumbs down

I already do not buy Anything from Wal-Mart. for other moral reasons but.

As far as the people who believe they already have been doing this - they have not been running the face of every purchaser through facial recognition software and then compiling a database to be used by law enforcement. The information they collect is theirs by the way, and could be sold to the highest bidder AKA "Big Brother" I mean what does Wal-Mart have to gain from not giving it to them? The information they collected before was only to meet the requirements of the ATF & the Federal govermet. God knows they would not spend the money unless they had too (Please see employee benifits). This is clearly an attempt to COVER THEIR A*S. and does nothing to lower crime. Only make it harder for the prople who care about the laws.. and at the expence of people who obey the laws..

What bothers me the most, Is this is the begining of the private sectors way of forming a national gun database of which I am Highley opposed!!! If the Federal goverment cant do it, why does Wal-Mart think they can? - That is because Wal-Mart is not governed by democratic proccess and believes you need them more than they need you. Think about how long can you go without Wal-Mart?

I will not follow the heard to wal-mart for the best deal on ____ (fil in the blank). People they care less about there employees and you would be lead to believe that they give a rats a*s about where there guns are used? Sorry I am not going to buy it! (At Wal-Mart).

For those that dont understand the importance of Denying a Nationl Gun database please take a look at history, and reflect

"After the location and number of legally acquired and legally owned guns is known, they can be confiscated. With a disarmed citizenry, the only ones with guns will be the police, the government, the military and the criminals who can do what they wish with the population. Ask the citizens of the former Soviet Union, the citizens of China, the citizens of the Cambodians under Pol-Pot, the Kosovars under the Serbs if being disarmed saved them from tyranny. "

Well, I already reload, but I do buy ammo for some firearms. I will probably buy at Academy Sports from now on.

I really have a problem with the privacy rights violations I see engendered in these policies. I have way more than two guns, and never bought any at WM. Now I won't start. And I'll stop buying their ammo, too.

I will keep buying the WWB 40 S&W 100 Rnd Boxes UP TO the point when they try to take my Picture, and THEN I will tell them to KEEP their Ammo and their Liberal attitude and walk out
Getting my Wife to Stop shopping their is going to be HARD, she loves buying Groceries there, BUT we went and bought a few Pieces of Meat and a few Veggies and it came to $75 and THAT was a So maybe it WON'T be hard to get her to stop getting Groceries at Wally World
But we ARE putting a Garden in on the "Back 40" this week
Plus, Wal-Mart has single Handedly bought a NEW Military for China

ammo is much cheaper there. gun stores have markups. Walmart does have some nice special order rifles - good prices.

I was going to make a point. I'm in IT, and I have to keep track of computers for 450 people. We stick a number on each one and make a database of who has what. It's a mess, we have people using machines that shouldn't exist, machines that should exist that we can't find... and that's only a few hundred. Imagine that times millions, over 10 or 20 years. With my work, if somebody's PC gets stolen, they have to call me to get a new one. I wouldn't call WalMart if my guns got stolen.

I can't come up with a good analogy for Insurance.

That's the way I see it (for now). But his point was to not give the company his money for anything because of the store policy.

Who knows, next year they might log ammo, cleaning supplies ... ??? Have you tried to buy Sudafed lately?
