22-250...or....308
Which round would be more accurate & have more power at 300-400 yards?

well the 308 will have way more energy and will be able to shoot up to 1000 yards however thats not really ideal but it can be done with a 308. it might be able to be done with a 22-250 but odds or it will pass into the sub-sonic range which will have a large impact on accuracy and at that distance it will be just a hair more powerful then a .22lr
but for less then 400 yards either will do the job depending on the job it needs to do. for smaller animals i would go for the 22-250 but for deer and larger at 300-400 the 308 wins hands down |

Here's a handy web site from Remington for comparing ballistics of various calibers.
Remington.com - Products - Ammunition - Ballistics I chose similar ammo of the different calibers and included the 270 Win. as it is another common hunting round. The velocity of the .22-250 starts very high, but falls off quickly. The .270 starts slightly slower than the .22-250 but faster than the .308 and maintains fair velocity out to 500 yds. The big difference is the energy numbers though. The .22-250 starts at 1540 ft/lbs and has only 372 ft/lbs at 500 yds. The .270 and the .308 have similar energy numbers. Both start above 2600 ft/lbs and at 500 yds are just above 1230 ft/lbs. I'd get the .308.

If you want to see some damage, you should see what a 308 ballistic tip will do to a deer at that range. They don't run.

The 270 Ballistic Tip is also impressive on whitetails...kills them like lightning. I also used a 150gr 30-06 Ballistic Tip on a 300 pound aoudad sheep and dropped him in his tracks. Love the Ballistic Tip bullet.
Don't poo poo the 22-250...for coyotes and smaller varmints, it is devastating and leaves huge holes in whatever it hits. Its also extremely accurate. I love my 22-250 but it has its niche and thats it. - brickboy240

One of the main complaints about the 22-250 is that if you do a lot of shooting they burn the barrels out faster than other .22 caliber varmint guns like the .204 or .222.
