one bullet shorter than the others?
I took the self-defense ammo out of my magazines yesterday and noticed one of the rounds was shorter than the others by a few millimeters. I usually just dump the rounds onto a paper towel before I go to the range to shoot FMJ but for some reason I lined them up and noticed the one was out of place.
The ammo is .45 ACP Speer Golddot hollowpoint. I am still fairly new to shooting, is this common? The case is the same height and width of the rest of the rounds and it is stamped .45 auto +P on the bottom. Just the bullet portion of the round is shorter than the rest in the box. Now I have to figure out how to dispose of one round. I'm guessing its not advisable to throw ammo in the trash. I'm not going to shoot it through my gun as there could be something wrong with it. |

You need to use a bullet puller. Something like this Cabela's Bullet Puller
I'm not sure I'd spend the money for one round. you'd probably be better off taking it to your local gun shop. they'll know what to do with it. Last edited by Tripledigitride : 04-13-2008 at 03:55 PM. |

Possibly bullet setback from multiple chamberings. Most of the time my handloads will setback .0005-.001 after 5 chamberings or so sometimes. Since you are talking mm that is a big difference if it is set back that much.

This is why I use ball ammo for the +1 round. I have to rechamber the round 1-2 time a day, so setback is a concern for me. I rotate out the chamber round once a week. Premium SD ammo costs to much for me to do that. Setback by a few mm is dangerous, not somuck so fir .45, but for any high pressure rounds, you are only increasing the preasure even more. Not good. |

Ashcan the round. Setback rounds are dangerous as pointed out. Take it to the range and they can put it in the misfire can.

Local PD often will accept a bad round and dispose of it. Beat just throwing it in the trash.
