HA! I would much rather support my local gun shop than give any of my hard earned money to walmart. But when walmarts prices on ammo are half the cost of my gun shops, I gotta do what I gotta do. The car stereo area is very close to the sporting goods area at my walmart. I just go over to one of the display radios and crank it up. "Oh Im sorry. But since your here can you get me some ammo outta the case." Works everytime. I think the ammo's cut off time is just because they dont want to pay someone to work the sporting counter during the slow hours.

I got a load of crap trying to buy a watch at 02:00 in the morning. Had to go back the next day. Last I checked, their jewelry department's hours weren't different then the rest of the store. But apparently that's not the case.

That would make me want to buy about 30lbs of ammo just so they would have to carry it up front.

One thing that I recently discovered as a pleasant surprise is that Wal-Mart's corporate policy on firearms in-store is that of the State the store is in. I OC in Wal-Mart once or twice a week and get several gawkers, but management has never said anything to me yet.

Hi All,
I'm new to posting anywhere on the great Internet but interested in open carry...Laws...policy and all. My husband works sporting goods for wal mart and maybe I can help explain a few things. One, it seems most hunters and fishermen go during the day to sporting goods...Fishermen like to go early, maybe because they get up early but so do most hunters. So it seems someone up there decided why keep a department that is dead at night open so they close at different times because the people who are trained to sell guns and licenses, can only work 8 hours or those nasty words( over time),so when they go home the training that keeps you legal goes with them...LOL... So to me it only makes since that if the store is open and the department closed.. The store managers haven't been through the training. A few that volunteer go to be trained then they learn the new laws to keep you hunters and fisherman legal and can educate y'all. .So maybe they should get some respect for taking their time to go learn the rules that help you be legal to pursue your sports and not get into trouble with the game/ fish, and or law authority, that might help you from having a bummer day ,on that dreadful day when he/she who already knows the law have an, encounter. Now also please remember , not all of the employees go to training usually the of sporting goods manager and maybe one associate..Not sending the whole management team and all the associates in the store, you know all the corporate world is doing is trying to keep the cost of shells down for us. So maybe they think the customer should educate themselves with when the educated employee is there to help them legally...And surely, this is what we all want, to be educated as to law and policy, oh, that silly thing called safety...LOL..... Think of those poor gardeners with those questions that can't get help after dark. They might want to garden at night. And how many times have you been in a check out line and to everyone's surprise someone puts liquor on the counter for a person who has a sign that says, No, Alcohol. Then all those intelligent customers who surely worked retail or minimum wage at some point of their life have to wait for the store to do their policy to keep the public safe and happy. And mine is ,How about the people who go into the express lines because they can't count to 10-20. Sorry, if anyone hasn't thought this trough but we American's need to work together and respect each other. Hugs and Kisses Ann |

You have to "close" the Wal-Mart sporting goods? Isn't it pretty much "closed" 24/7? If it were open at any period throughout the day, someone would be working there.

So Walmart employees need special training to work sporting goods. That may be true where Walmart sells firearms. But I have the same problem at two local Walmarts and neither sells firearms. Maybe its because they have to know how to fill out hunting and fishing licenses. I don't know. I guess that explains it. The people smart enough to learn how to work in the sporting goods department are only willing to take the job if they can work days only.
I used to buy ammo at Walmart, till I found Blazer at my local gun shop cheaper than WWB at Walmart. |
