Rate these four, if possible.

Now, not to say I'm going to use FMJ for self defense, I just want to include it in this question. Rate these four generally described rounds in order from what will do the most damage to what will do the least.

High grain JHP, Lower grain JHP, High grain FMJ, Lower grain FMJ

1)________
2)________
3)________
4)________

I was going to reply earlier,
But it involved too much math for bullet weights, HP expansions, etc..........

Speer Gold Dot...............thats my answer..
Sorry if that doesn't actually coincide with the OP..
But its Friday night and I've had a few Shiner Black Lagers............

1.heavy JHP (it has a lower FPS but the sectional density is what helps a pullet penetrate deeper, and when you compare 2 bullets of the same cal the heavier one will have a higher SD and will therefore penetrate deeper)

2/3 light JHP and heavy FMJ its a tie in this situation where i dont know what exactly you will be shooting at. when up in the hills i alternate heavy FMJ and heavy JHP because i dont know if its animals or people i will be shooting at, and over penetration isnt as much of a concern when up in the mountains.

4. light FMJ is basicly useless unless you NEED a higher velocity bullet for a specific reason (i havent found a reason for light FMJ) well i guess it would be ok if you wanted a light recoiling bullet but in that case you should buy a smaller cal gun that allready has a low weight.

check out
The Box O' Truth - Ammo Penetration Testing
the box'o'truth website they have lots of different bullet tests including a brand of frangable ammo that is really really light (hey make a 90 grain 45 bullet and that is not a typo it is 90 grains hell thats light even on the 9mm scale)
heres the link to their sight its rbcd ammo
RBCD Product 2

and here is the box o truth test of said ammo

A FMJ at any vel. will produce about the same wound in soft tissue. A high vel. FMJ that strikes bone produces alot of bone fragments. A high vel. JHP is more likely to produce a larger perm. wound channel w/ slightly less penetration. A heavy JHP will produce a deep perm. wound w/ slightly less expansion.
