Old Ammo

I have a box of old ammo, Federal 9 mm JHP. It is really old, as in 1992. It has been indoors in a drawer all this time. The cartidges aren't as shiny as when new, but there are no signs of corrosion or anything like that present. The question I have is whether it is safe to shoot this. Don't want to blow up my XD or have any other mishaps with it. So I need some input. I am thinking not to shoot it, but then again if it's okay, why waste it ?

I'd shoot it even if it was dated 1952 and looked like you say it does.
Ammo lasts a long time when stored properly.
Only concern would be if it were corroded from humidity or moisture.
I shot off a box of 1960's 410 shotgun shells the other day and last trip to the range I finished some remy 9mm that had to date back to the 70's..

I just fired off some 12ga. in my new Winchester Defender. The shells have been around since the 60s or 70s. They worked great. Been in the closet (in a house w/o ac for a few years) in the boxes and a paper grocery bag.

Fifteen year old ammo is only old to someone that is 20. I've shot surplus ammo from 50s manuf. As long as the ammo hasn't been stored in poor conditions (extreme heat/cold & humidity) it will last for decades. So shoot it up.

I'd rather have my XD and not need it, then need it and not have it....
