HP ammo smells different than JHP

Is this just me or does all HP ammo smell different when fired (a stronger gunpowder smell) than FMJ?

This is especially noticeable in an indoor range. It is true, for me at least, across many different brands of HP and JHP. All the HP's smell alike and all the JHP's smell alike, but different.

EDIT: HP vs. FMJ -- Not JHP!
I'm S.T.U.P.I.D.

HP is short for hollow point, jhp is short jacketed hollow point. Not sure which ammo you're comparing.

Sure you did!!!!

Different powders for different purposes. They will smell different based on the different powder compositions.

Speaking of which...

I really like the way Eley target ammo smells.

I've noticed that some brands of ammo will smell different. Wolf has a distinctive smell.
I don't shoot much factory ammo anymore, mainly reloads but even with reloads there is a certain smell to a particular brand and type of powder.
