Ammo tested today
Hello Everyone, I put another 65 rounds through my new XD9 4". Had the first function problems I have experienced and am up to 200 rounds. Three times, the slide did not lock back after the last round was fired. Either the grease I put on the rails was too thick or the powder charge was too light, although I did chronograph them and the speed should have been fast enough. The load was as follows:
Mixed brass 125 gr. plated "Bullseye Bullets", out of RI? Win primers 3.8 gr. TightGroup Very light to non existant crimp. I just hit the edge to take the bell out and not actually crimp them. All were loaded on my Dillon 550 average velocity was about 1030 FPS, measured at 10 feet. They seemed to shoot well although slightly to the left. Two other guys also have bought the same gun in the last month and they also find that their shots are printing a bit left also. Next up is for me to make up a sight pusher as I hear that the sights do not want to move and I don't want to beat on the gun. After shooting some lead reloads, I found that the barrel was as loaded as any I have ever seen. Took the foul out three cleanings to get the lead out. I won't shoot lead in it again. Accuracy was terrible also after the first 30 rounds. I do like the gun and plan to shoot it a lot! HS

I did not have good luck shooting lead 125s out of my 4".
Some rounds would go left and others would go right. I do shoot lead out of my 45 TRP without any issues. You might want to shoot some normal ammo and have someone else shoot it before you adjust the sights. You just need a punch set to drift the rear sight. |

You didn't say what your OAL is, but try abit more crimp. JMO, even in my G17, slide response is slow w/ a 125gr bullet less than 1050fps. I run 124grLTC @ 1150fps & they work my BHP's heavy sprung slide.
BTW cove, plated bullets are not lead just thinnly jacketed lead. If you shoot FMJ or JHP, you are shooting a jacketed lead core bullet.
