couple Q's about ammo and XD9SC

Ok I just read an article in I believe Combat Handgunner about type of ammo used in 9mm SC. The article was generaly stating that a round that is fired out of a 5" barrel @ 1400 fps leaves a 4" barrel @around 1050 fps and a 3" barrel @around 800fps and thus not having enough energy for a JHP to open up. I believe this to be accurate, but have never thought about that until now. I shoot 124gr Speer Gold dots, but I haven't done any real testing with ballistic gel or any thing to that effect. I am just wondering if any one has done any accurate testing with a XD9SC and their results? I shoot my SC very well and am confident in it in a self defense situation just dont know about the ammo choice. Should I use the lowest grain bullet I can find to keep the fps up? I guess I just need to do some research. Thanks for any help you can give me. Or I guess I could just start carrying the XD45C.

I read that same article and am also curious. I plan to test shoot some water jugs in the near future.

I carry 124 grn +p gold dots but the non short barrel versions. I also plan to pick up some SB gold dots and try those.

I've read about the "short barrel ammo", I have not use it. I've been told that I should not use this as a range bullet, it is a maximum load. I have a magazine of max loaded 9mm for ccw but use other for range.
MidwayUSA - Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Ammunition 9mm Luger +P 124 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 20

The same goes for my S7W snubbie.

It sounds like the writer of that article had not done any research and was pulling figures out of the air, or other places. Also sounds like they have their own personal agenda of some type. Show me some unbiased test that prove their point and they will have some creditability. Otherwise, choose different reading material.

I dont quite understand what you were trying to say here, but I put it in general terms because I dont remember the exact numbers they gave but I believe I was fairly close. Thay may have a personal agenda because they gave some suggestions on ammo DPX and others. I personaly dont think they just fabricated the numbers but I could be wrong. What tests have you done that makes you think they were #'s pulled out of their a$$es?

All the data I've seen says that you loose about 50 fps per inch of barrel, the numbers posted in the article don't seem right. I wouldn't trust them. Do a search for independent ammo tests, to get unbiased data. Try firearms tactical, and tactical forums.

560 FPS from a 5" to a 3" barrel,I'm not sure I believe that.
The article also recommends 2 loads from a 3" barrel Corbon DPX and Glaser Blue (made by the same company...hmmmm).
I've never heard anyone recommend Glaser Blue.
It also says "Corbon DPX ammo is available in economically priced 20 round boxes",have they ever priced DPX versus say 50 round boxes of Speer Gold Dot,Winchester Ranger,Federal HST etc...??
