Federal HST Ammo +P

I Just ordered 500 rounds of Federal Tactical HST 230grain +P .45ACP online. around 250shipped but i figured this would be a good chance to fire off a lot of the ammo that i will actually carry. My CCW is my XD .45 service sitting in a MTAC holster. Couldnt find much on searches but what is the community opinion/experiances on this ammo?

I use the regular flavor of the HST2 230gr....i've never had a problem with it, and I trust it with my life everyday.

The Federal HST's are on the very short list of the best SD rounds available.

Great rounds and feed fine in my XD. They are fairly pointy and did not feed well in one of my finicky 1911's. Feeds fine though in my Kimber.

I shot the +P version of the HST and had feed problems in each mag of my XD45 Tactical. Maybe its just me. However, a reliable round that works all of the time is better than a super round that does not.

Good luck!

I typed "federal HST" into a search and got this:

Ammo Test: Federal HST 230gr .45acp +P JHP

Problems with XD45 and P45HST1 Ammunition

What defense ammo do you use?

Federal P45HST2 ballistics?

What defense ammo do you carry in your compact .45?

Short HST range report

Which Federal HST?

Federal HST or Federal Tactical Bonded

Federal HST + my XD45C = FTFeed

federal Hst 230 gr +P or 185Hst+P

Federal Tactical HST problem

According to those links there seems to be a ton of FTFeed problems and magazine deformation. hmmm... guess i'll find out when my 500 rounds arrive. due to this i plan to measure my mags before i start shooting them and only use two mags so i dont jack up all of mine if this is a standard issue with these rounds.

Only a few have had these feed problems with the HST. Seems that it is also limited to .45acp caliber as well which would make sense.

Since .45 is a large round, and the large mouth of the HST hollow point is like the gaping maw of a great white shark, tends to make sense that it might have a little trouble feeding past the lip of the feed ramp. I polished my feed ramp a few weeks back and I have not been able to reproduce this failure after shooting 150 more rounds of HST. I also bought two new magazines from Pistol gear, but I was also unable to get my old mags to misfeed.

I think the ramp polish job was the ticket.

Oh, one other note. . . . I changed from shooting HST in +P to shooting the HST in standard pressure. While this might have had something to do with it, I am unsure. I like the standard pressure just as much as I liked the +P and it might even be the better choice.

I would go with polish the feed ramp. It was the first thing that I did to my XD and never had a problem. I also have a .40 so it might be a little different
