Is buying reloads a good deal usually?

I'm thinking about trying to find reloads for my XD 45GAP since it's about $15-20 a box of 50 factory rounds. Are reloads for the most part good for practice ammo or should I stick to factory ammo? Also, anyone have any idea how inexpensive I should be able to find 45GAP reloads?

cheers

If you want to use reloaded ammo build those reloads yourself. That's your best option.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, since I'm a college student and live on campus, I can't exactly have all that stuff in my dorm room (was hard enough getting it approved to have my XD on campus). Looks like I'll stick to factory ammo.

cheers

i agree with the above the only reloads you should shoot are your own.

i have tried gunshow reloads in the past they are in most cases weak or crimped poorly to save time and money.

A couple of indoor ranges in Richmond, VA require that you buy your ammo from them. Your choice is factory ammo for at least $12.95/50 for PMC or WWB, or Atlanta Arms and Ammo at $10.95 (for 9mm). The Atlanta Arms ammo is reloads. I've had to use quite a few over the past several years and have not a problem. In addition, Georgia Arms sells reloads that are reputed to be high quality. I suppose this ammo might be better described as "remanufactured" rather than reloaded.

Using your buddy's reloads made in the basement while watching TV and drinking beer might be a little risky, remanufactured stuff made on automated machinery is probably a little safer.

However, you pays your nickle, you takes your chances.

I agree with you. i have a few close friends that i would trust thier loads but thats it. the three of us each load one caliber. i load .45ACP, one loads .40 and one loads 9mm. we load in large batches and load during winter months and often load together.

I only buy reloads if I can clearly smell alcohol on the breath of the person who reloaded them.
