Lee Pro 1000 Reliability / Durability ?

Can some of you provide a little feedback on just how durable this press is ??? Number of rounds loaded etcetera!!!

I have read that they are good for the price, but do not hold up well in the long run.

less than 150 rounds loaded a total piece of crap. Its sitting on my bench every once in a while I tinker with it trying to get the POS to work. Dont waste your money. Get a Dillon Square deal and call it good.

My buddy has a Lee Pro 1000 and it has been a POS since he bought it. As bigun said get a Dillon, either the SD or a RL550 (I load all my pistol ammo on a 550 plus .223 for my AR).

The Dillon 550 may set you back more on the initial investment, but over the long term, it will pay for it's self and you'll be much happier with a machine that works.

I got mine free from a friend. I've loaded between 4-5 thousands rounds through it of 9mm and 45. The key to this press is to make sure you keep it clean, and take your time keeping it adjusted. When it works, its works well. If I don't do the things I've just mentioned, then I get what I deserve. I've not used any other presses to have an opinion of them.

Keep it clean and it will work just fine. I've done over 20K rounds on mine and it's still working fine.

Ditto on the advise about keeping it clean. We loaded in the region of 8 to 10k with our Lee Pro, but if you can afford it the Dillon is the XD of reloaders

Thanks guys, and keep the opinions coming.
I have tossed the Lee, Hornady, and Dillon (progressives) around for a while and understand mechanical stuff very well. So I can see where the Pro & Con statements are coming from, as well as the design issues each press has.

I am now looking at the cost justification of each.
rodeymo, 4-5000 rounds .... Over what period of time 1 year ?? ... 5 years ??

agalindo, same question ??
I guess it doesn't matter, if it holds up to that many rounds with proper maintenance ..... It's pretty hard to justify the price difference if I expect to load 3-5000 a year.

I can afford it, but my question now becomes do I really need to spend that much more for my purposes.

In my case over 20,000 rounds in a period of 3 years.

I don't know what the ammo prices are states side, but here by us if we don't reload we can't afford to shoot. The ammo prices have become very restrictive, so what we did was a couple guys got together & bought the press & the different dies 9mm, 40 & 45 & just make our own & it's fun too.
