Hi. In the short time I have been in this forum I have learned a great deal. In all honesty, I have also learned that I have a lot to learn. With this in mind I have more questions:
Which lead bullet do you reload? I've heard about Oregon Trail, Montana Gold, and Precision. Is there an advantage to one of these over another? I am looking to load for range / target likely in the 200-230 grain. Should I try 185 or something else too? I am brand new to this and want to avoid difficulties with the SWC loads. Advice is appreciated. Learning, Chapie+ |

Any advice on which company's bullet to use is appreciated. I am starting out reloading .45 ACP for my XDs and would appreciate hearing your advice / experience so I can pick one to start with. Hello Chapie,
I am a newbie at reloading but here is what I did. I first copied the Winchester White Box Round using Rainier Plated Bullets. I used Winchester 231 powder, a 230 gr. Bullet and 5.0gr of powder. These shoot great for me. I have found thus far that it is better for me to copy a round using my reloading manuals than to try and start from scratch. Again I am newbie and others on here are much more experienced than me. I hope this has helped. |

I use precisioin bullets. They will be cheaper than any jacketed or plated bullet. At the same time you will not have lead exposure during reloading and during firing of your pistol. For the money you will not beat the precision bullets. Order a small quatity to try them out, them order them buy the case, they get even cheaper. I use Hodgdon powder, universal or clays. Good luck!

I use Ranier and Berry because they are both just about the same cost as any good lead bullet and being plated don't leave lead in the barrel or put lead in the air.
I've had some problems with 200gr Ranier flat points being undersized so I am going to stick with their 230gr HP. |

I use 200 gr. LRN in my XD and 200 gr. LSWC in my 1911. The LSWC will not work in my XD. Great results with both bullets. No leading.

I've reloaded about 1,400 230gr RP of Oregon Trail and love them. Just my opinion.

For 45 I think the Precision Black bullet is the best deal. 200gr RNF would be the bullet I would choose for all uses. You can get more bullets at a slightly cheaper price than the 230s. I had some of their 200gr SWCs loaded and a buddy of mine was able to run them through his XD45 service with no problems but because of the postings concerning SWC reliability in the XD45 I would say use the round nose bullets.

Meister, 185 gr. RNFP pushed by 5.4 grains Bullseye propellant is the best shooting combo I've found.
