Who is YOUR primer source?
Anyone have a cheap source for primers? The hazmat upcharge (typically $20) makes me wonder if I might be better off picking these up locally, even after probably paying a little above the online price and sales tax. I need small pistol primers for 9mm and .40 and I am mainly looking at the 5k packs from CCI. The prices I have seen is about $125-$130 from Midway and $113 from Powder valley Inc. Powder Valley is actually about an hour from my house but I rarely go that direction for anything. My local Gander Mountain gets about $35/1k and the indoor range gets $27/1k. Short of any new ideas I’ll probably just pick some up for the range since I go there pretty regularly anyway. What do you guys do?
Thanks, X |

i just buy mine from walmart or who every when i am there buying bullets or powder. i usually just grab a couple hundred each time im there so i dont really notice the cost much at all. and the headache of ordering online isnt worth it since i dont have to figure gas into my cost since its a trip thats allready made and not one for primers

Damn your Wal Mart sells primers, powder and bullets?!?!?!?!?!
The only way to make the Hazmat fee work out is to order a pretty large order or go in on an order with a buddy. If I order on line me and a guy at work order what we want and split the HazMat fee. Anyother time I get it locally from a hunting bass pro type shop down the street.

Ouch! $35/1K is robbery. If you are only buying 1K at a time, then grit your teeth & pay the higher local price. You should be buying in bulk to save cost anyway so PowderValley is your best bet. Midaway does NOT let you combine powder & primers under the same hazmat. Order 10K primers & your HM fee is only $2/unit & no sales tax, that covers shipping.
Gunshows are also a great place to score affordable primers. I bought 5K WWLP at the last show here for $105 + the $9 to get into the show.

Primers are still ~$22/1000 at the local reload shop here. I usually pick 'em up 1K at a time, but should probably pick up 5K once in a while and stash 'em

Get in good with the sporting goods manager at Wal-Mart or your favorite gun/ammo store. They will order stuff for you if you ask them. Just make sure to ask around. Sportsmans Warehouse will order stuff, but they place a minimum on any order. Wal-Mart on the other hand ....... Yea, I like that manager
