Best Defensive ammo for a snubby??

Hey all,

I was wondering what your suggestions would be for a good defense load for a snubby revolver??? i have seen people use semi jacketed hollopoints, wadcutters as well as Gold Dot ammo for it. Anybody have any info on it??

Thanks guys!

I load GoldDots in every defensive pistol that I own, including my snubby.

SPEER makes "short barrel" defense ammo that is made specifically for short barrels. Has a wider mouth in the hollow point and a diffrent propellant from what I am able to gather to assist in terminal performance.

Check

Welcome to Ammunition To Go!

They sell 50 round boxes of defensive ammo and IIRC they carry "short barrel" Gold Dots.

I like the Speer 135grGDSB & the WW 145grSTHP. Recoil & blast are managable in a 2"-3" bbl. There is nothing wrong w/ the 38sp+p 158grLSWCHP either. Most snubs will give you close to 900fps w/ that load & it's very easy to shoot well & most likely to print POA v the lighter JHP.

Short barrel means less time for powder to burn and bring the bullet up to full velocity and energy. That means that cartridges with fast burning powders and the ability to penetrate deeply are highly desirable.

I put Corbon DPX in my short barrel handguns up to but not including .45 ACP caliber. The product is an outstanding performer for this application. I don't use it in my .45 because it penetrates too deeply... consistently exiting 16" gel blocks. I use other products that work better for .45 caliber handguns.
