The 180 gr cause it will transfer all if not most of that energy to the target without the chance of going though the target...

Well...I'd probably go with the 180s...isn't that what the .40 s&w was designed around?
For .45 acp, GoldDots are available in 185, 200 +P, and 230...I carry the 230s... Pick either one you like...shot placement is going to matter more than a 25 grain difference in bullet weight.

Just curious where you're getting your information from?

Either will do the job. You might get abit more out of the 155gr if you believe that a temporary cavitation as a wounding mechanism. It still comes down to shot placement.

Ah yes, "stopping power"...
Did you also know that the Coriolis force makes water go down drains counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere, but clockwise in the southern hemisphere?

In the SC pistols I like the fastest bullet I can get. The less barrel length the more you will need the velocity advantage. I like the 135gr Cor-Bon load for my Kahr PM40. It is a hand full but you are not shooting at 25 yards with the thing.
The 135gr load is like a hand grenade going off in ballistics gel. However... Being this is a Speer thread I would say the best performer of the Gold Dot line in a full size pistol is the 180gr load. But... This is about the XDsc.. So... I really like the 165gr Gold dot in this XD. It has the best of both worlds. Velocity and Weight.

The general rule of thumb I have inferred from reading many posts on caliber and "stopping power" is that it is better to shoot the largest bullet weight your weapon caliber can and then shoot it as fast as is safely possible from a pressure perspective.
That being said I reload 155's for my 40 caliber handgun because the high pressure nature of that caliber makes me a little nervous when it comes to reloading 180 grain bullets.

Speers bullet comparison data.
Speer Ammo - Ballistics Tables for the person asking where to get info. I don't have a .40 but my thinking is I have a .45 230 gr +P HP delivering about 451 ft pounds @ 7 yds. My 9mm 147 gr HP will deliver 322 ft pounds @ 7yds. I probably can deliver two shots of this faster than the .45 but which is better?

try the 165g gold dot, best of both worlds as far as velocity and penetration.
