Your Favorite Loads (and Least)

I proudly own the .45 Service model.

For my little wonder, Magtech 185 grain JHP works the best. Plenty of punch, control, and accuracy. Plus there Gold. Who the hell wouldnt want that?

Worst round i ever put through it was Sellier & Bellot FMJ. From 25 feet only 35-40 rounds hit the 12inch target out of a box of 50. Not to mention gun was dirty as hell afterwards.

Reloaded rounds are generally #1 in my book, just because you can tweak them to your personal preference. (I'm not a reloader - yet - but I know people who are and they've made me .45 before, which we've tuned to my likings...)

That said, I just put 100 rounds of Atlanta Arms & Ammo .45 FMJ (230 grain) at the range, and I liked it. It wasn't as dirty as the "cheap" range stuff generally is, but wasn't much more expensive - and seemed to shoot fairly accurately. AMMUNITION - HANDGUN - **SELECT BY CALIBER - .45 ACP (Canned heat)

For self defense, I like gold dot, and low and behold - AMMUNITION - HANDGUN - HUNTING & DEFENSE LOADS - GOLD DOT - .45 ACP

I guess there is some validity to the argument against +p for SD, but I've not noticed much difference at all between firing +p or "normal" rounds in terms of follow-up shots, assuming I don't flub up and limp wrist or something. Guess it depends on how it impacts you.

I'm troubled by your last paragraph. You will find LEA everywhere shooting +p. If they shoot it, why wouldn't we?

I'm not sure why you're troubled - I personally like +p. If you do any kind of search, though, you'll find a fair amount of people claiming +p isn't good for SD, because follow-up shots are more difficult. A quick google search turned up this thread, even talking about the same ammunition: Good self defense round / 45 ACP - Firearms, Guns & Weapons Forums - FirearmsTalk.com

Again - let me make it clear - I *personally* like +p. It doesn't slow down my follow-up shots a bit, and I feel better having more energy on impact. Perhaps you should re-read my last paragraph. That said, if shooting +p ammunition makes follow-up shots for you impossible, you probably shouldn't carry it for SD. Apparently, for some, it causes issues. That's all I was pointing out!

My bad I was assuming you meant they were implying +p was somehow more deadly. I've been up to late!
