Speer Gold Dots and Old Age

bought some 180 gr. gold dots for my 40 s&w today. when i got home i notice that the price sticker had some old stickers below it. pealed 'em off and the next to last one had a date from '05 on it but the first one didn't have a date. looked like the stickers were on there yearly so i'm guessing they're from '04. are they to old to use as a self defense round?

p.s. first price was $14.99, paid $22

Ammo should be fine for a long time, assuming it's kept dry and at room temperature.

That sucks. I would have been pissed enough to perhaps even bring it up with the shop...

i looked through all they had but all the boxes looked kinda old. i just didn't think that they looked that old. its the only shop i know of in the area since i just moved here and i didn't want to order just a couple of boxes online. just ordered my wilderness belt and crossbreed, just looking for a good carry round.

REALLY old ammo can be shot reliably if its stored right. If in doubt, pull a few out and shoot em. If they work you should be good to go.

I recently shot some ammo manufactured during WW2 and had 0 rounds that failed to fire. The only ammo I would be concerned about is ammo that is corroded, discolored, or very old .22 rimfire ammo. Rimfire ammo doesn't seem to be sealed against moisture as well as centerfire ammo is.

Stored properly, I wouldn't even think of questioning the ammo until its age is at least ten years old. And quite frankly, it can be perfectly good for decades after that. Use it with confidence.

Should be fine. I've fired thousands of bulk rounds produced prior to my birth...and they were probably stored in a communist warehouse without climate control.
