best 223 rem weight for 100-200 yards?

well ive been reloading handguns for a while now but i havent done alot of reloading for rifles. well i have an 18" 1in8 twist barrel

well i know that you want to use the heavier high BC bullets for long range and for what ive heard (which is mostly gun store BS) that the lighter bullets are best for shorter range.
well i am only going to be shooting paper
well i was looking into the hornady 40 grain a-max but i had heard of bullets tearing apart due to a fast twist with a light weight bullet going really fast
any recomondations on what your using would be great
thank you

With a 1:8 twist, you can tear the bullet up if it's that light. Also, for the range that you are talking, you are going to have more accuracy with the heavier-grain bullets. I would be thinking 65 grains would be about right, although the 55-grain bullets would probably perform alright too.

With a 1x8 twist barrel I wouldn't use 40 grain bullets. You could certainly try and see if they'll stabilize at 100 yards, but I think the barrel twist is too fast.

I'd say try something like a 62, 65, or 69 grain bullet. 100-200 yards isn't far so you'd probably be fine using 55 gr. bullets as well.

This is my favorite short course bullet.

MidwayUSA - Hornady Match Bullets 22 Caliber (224 Diameter) 53 Grain Hollow Point Box of 100

It is perfect for shorter ranges like 100-200 yards.

Oh yeah and the 3-Gun community has been shooting low weight bullets(35-50gr) in their 1-7 twist rifles for years with no complaints as have I.

I think the Hornady 68gr bullet is just about the best all around bullet anyone could want!

I have never heard that. I have heard it about the Nosler competition bullets though.
