.45ACP (+P) ammo, dealer told me NO
So I went in the gun shop yesterday trying to pick out some defensive loads for my new XD-45. After the guy behind the counter showed me all the various cartridges he had, I asked if they carried factory +P ammo. He said that +P will blow up my gun! WTF... I have read on this site that a Springfield rep told them that XDs were designed for +P ammo, and that the chamber was fully supported. My initial reaction is that he wanted me to buy something they carried, so he told me the +P which they did not carry would not work. Can anyone shed any light on this for me

Damien in Seattle I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything. All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting. |

I hate it when you have to school gun shops on what they are selling you. Nothing bothers me more then going in to ask a question and to walk out with the same question , but spent a half hour schooling the clown behind the counter on what is right and not right.
Oh well guess its just not a Michigan thing .

is there really any or should I say Many new hand guns that wont shoot +p ammo

SA told me when I called about steel case wolf ammo(not recommended by SA), that +p and +p+ factory ammo was ok in my XD45.

Another gunshop knucklehead. I wish I had $10 for every stupid answer I got from a gunshop employee. Using +p ammo in todays modern pistols is fine. There may be a manuf. out there that does not recommend it but the +p ammo is only 3K psi more pressure than std. ammo. If that were going to blow your pistol up, well, std. ammo would probably beat it to scrap too.
