What do you believe will happen with ammo prices?
I'm curious to find out what other other folks are thinking about the skyrocketing ammo prices.
* Do you believe that ammo prices will ever stabilize, or even go back down to some lower level? * What do you think are the PRIMARY causes of the continuing price increases? * What effect, do you think that the high ammo prices will have on the future of shooting sports in the U.S., if they stay high? |

It may cause more folks to go to handloading... I don't think prices will come down. reasons for increase are metal prices are on the rise and fuel prices rising so it costs more to get raw materials delivered to factory/ retail store.

once the major portion of our military are out of Iraq/afghanistan, the price will start to fall and come to a stable area..

Now that they know we will spend the money that we are spending now, they are going to keep charging the same amount or more.

+99999999 I already reload and don't see prices of ammo or components coming down any time soon! Man I hate to say that

The war may be part of it but you have to understand what has happened to raw materials over the past year largely because China has bought them up.
My company makes equipment most of which we sell runs off of lead acid batteries. 1 metric tonne of raw lead increased over the course of the last year nearly 400%. Brass is made of nickle and copper...over 2/3 copper as a matter of fact. I don't recall the numbers on copper over the same 12 month period but it was significant...I think it may have been in the ballpark of 130-170% increase. Ammunition manufacturers are having to pass these raw material increases onto the consumers. I would not guess that we will see lead and copper drop out any time soon...so as such I would not expect ammo prices to drop. |

you know the price of copper has gone up when theives strip AC units and full runs of wiring on farm irrigation units. The cost of raw materials in all metals is being increased by the demand of China and the falling value of our US Dollar. It is not going to get better any time soon. I am looking at reloading, getting into it now even though on some ammo it is still cheaper; I don't believe it will be in the future. There is also the issue of supply and demand.

Is anyone concerned that prices will rise to a point where shooting becomes only a realistic pastime for the very rich (as in the UK and Germany)? I don't think high ammo prices would ever stop people from carrying a CCW for defense, but what about competition shooting, where you go through literally reams of ammo. I'm afraid that in competition shooting, the current market prices for ammo may crowd out all but the very well off, or those who for any reason have access to large supplies of ammo.
