Another Reloading Question

After reading alot of different threads about reloading I have decided to start and had a couple of questions.

1. I know with rifle cases you have to trim them and clean the primer pocket do you do that with pistol ammo?

2. As far as presses go I have narrowed it down to a Lee classic turret 4-hole or a Lee Pro 1000. Which would you recommend?

BTW- I was going to start with .45acp and .45LC and then when i'm more comfortable .40 and some different rifle calibers.

I just started reloading & got the Classic 4 hole turret press. It was easy to set up & I've had no problems with it. I really like the plastic tube that comes off the bottom of the ram to catch the spent primers. I'm loading 45ACP right now, & down the road I'll get another turret & a set of 30-06 dies.
I'm cleaning the primer pockets right now, until the case tumbler I ordered gets here.

I don't clean primer pockets or trim the case for pistol rounds. I've been using a ProLoader 1000 for a while.

Unless you need alot of ammo quickly, the turret will do fine & has far fewer headaches. You don't NEED to clean primer pockets but it helps get uniform primer seating. BTW, a tumbler will NOT clean your primer pockets much at all. They still need to be scraped. I rarely clean pockets on handgun brass.

I'm a reloading noob, as in just started a few days ago, and bought the Lee Classic Turret (4-hole) to get started. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I don't really care for the swingy-auto-prime-disk-thing-a-ma-jig though... it seems that I'm picking up more primers off the floor than actually stay put. Other than that, it's been really easy to learn with. I think it's a good buy for reloading-noobs...would I like a Dillon? Yah. But I can live with this just fine!!

BTW, I ordered mine from Kempf Guns and talked to Sue about her recommendations: Classic VS Pro 1000. I was originally going to get the 1000, but she said she's had a lot of people that have had a lot of problems with that press. She said you have to keep it really clean to get it to work reliably, and she highly recommended the Classic Turret. Again, that's not coming from me, but from her. She was really helpful though, and they have good pricing...I'd look to them to buy from.

Thanks for the info so far. I found this one at Cabelas and it seems comparable to the Classic. What do you think Yea or Ney?
