winchester white box

i was just reading the box of my 9mm ammo. it says you can hunt thin skinned game such as whitetail deer and boar. anyone else think this is true.

I gotta agree, the 9mm seems a 'lil light to be using as a hunting round for the stated game animals. Unless maybe you can get close enough for a frontal head shot.

It says the same thing on the WWB's I have for my .45ACP and I would never take it out deer hunting.

They may be talking about their "hunting rounds", and have it on all their boxes regardless of caliber. Dunno.

Don't believe everything you read. It's part of their std. packaging. In most states, it's not even legal to hunt deer/pigs w/ FMJ ammo. Many states have caliber min. for handgun hunting as well.

yeh, i know. but hey our state lets you hunt with any centerfire round. im planning on picking up a .223 rem. to do most of my hunting.

Shot placement.


I wouldn't use .223 for hunting anything equal to or larger than deer.

There's a difference between being able to and what's a decent kill.

If your a good shot and keep the shots in close you'll be fine with a .223 for deer.I dropped one last year at 10yds with a win 64gr power point bullet to the neck.Instant dead!My AR15 is scoped with a Nikon 3x9 buckmasters scope.

yeh deer is going to be the largest thing i will hunt with a 223. we dont have anything bigger around my area anyway.
