feeding problems with cast lead SWC's
Hello all,
I am relatively new to reloading and cannot get cast lead 200 grain SWC's to feed in my XD45. I have tried several different seating depths and still am not able to cure the feeding/jamming problems. I read in another forum that there seems to be a "magazine thing" that causes the FTF's/FTE's. You can see where the bullet just fired scrapes across the next bullet in the magazine causing the FTE. Has anyone else had a similar issue with lead SWC's? The reloads (4.0 gr. Bullseye under the 200 gr SWC) shoot/eject great if shot individually. I plan on pollishing the feed ramp a little, but, I don't think it will help. Is there a cure? I have already ordered some JHP's and RN's (all coated) so I can get back to the range. Any ideas? Thanks! |

I am not familiar with shooting swc in the XD45 but am in the XD40. For that gun the general feeling is to use a truncated cone bullet design as the swc don't feed well in the 40. Don't know if the same holds true for the 45. I had to experiment a lot with the TC even at that but finally got it 100% reliable.
In many 1911's the swc doesn't feed well unless you polish the feed ramp. |

I had the same problem with .40 SWC all I did to fix the problem was to seat the bullet in a bit more and crimp the bullet a bit more.

Post a picture of some of your ammo that stops in feeding. Sometimes we can come up with a solution based on something else we see.

I played w/ diff. seating & crimps, nothing makes my 45tac feed the 200grlswc 100%. I can get as high as a 90% rate, but it beats up the back of the mag. Solution, I now feed it 200grTC or 230grRN designs.

I've never had a problem with anything but SWC. She eats everything else you put down her. So........the TC cast bullets work well for you?

Yes, they work excellent for me. One of the other commentors mentioned the crimp. I forgot that, I was not crimping to the spec on the 40 and that was a large factor also. I was several 1000's too big. I was only crimping to take the bell out like I do on my 45 bullseye gun. I had to crimp further for the tc. Ha, i followed the book, funny how that works.
