It has put a damper on my shooting habits. I used to shoot weekly but can no longer afford to do so. I try to buy 100 9mm and 100 .45acp every month and more when I can afford it. I remember buying 100 9mm for $11...... Those were the days!!!!!!!

Has it been getting me down? Yeah, absolutely.

I haven't gone to the range as much, but not for this reason. Just got busy. Even so, I grab 2 100 ct. 9mm at WMT and and 2 boxes of 50 .380 (gun shop, not WW) every week when we go for the household stuff.

1600 9mm and 450 .380 in the safe right now. Seems like an investment at the moment.

I'll be adding a Buckmark or MKIII 22/45 for a range gun at the next gun show here if the prices are right. 2 more weeks.

I am not sure exactly how many rounds I have in stock. I know that I have 5-50 cal ammo cans full. So I would say around 2K rounds. I want to have 4-5K total. 1K for each of my calibers with some extra .223 ammo. That should make me happy!

I have 2k of rounds on hand for my XDs. I am trying to keep that number up and buy what I want to practice with. I don't know if that is going to be possible though. I am taking a combat handgun class this summer and I am probably going to have to dip into that pile to provide some ammo for the class. I hope to get reloading this summer as well.

Prices

Reloading costs are going up. I just checked my store of primers and see I paid $12.42 per K years ago. Now I want to reload .45ACP and see primers are all about $25 per 1,000(K)

Its gotten me down slightly but I have adapted. Picked up die for 45ACP to go with my 40 dies on my 650. I am using lead bullets in 45 to cut costs. $125/1000 for FMJ 230. I got 2250 200gr LRNFS for $170. That will help. For my 40 I am probably going to switch from Vihtavuori n320 powder to the much cheaper Titegroup. For practice I might even try lead in the 40 although I think at Major power factor its going to take some pretty hard lead to not have a nasty leading problem. Buy in bulk when I can to get a deal.

Some of you folks really ought to look into reloading. When I first got into Bullseye the only way to keep shooting was to reload so I decided right then, after buying 100 rounds from a club member and seeing his price, to buy a press and learn to reload. I now load for 38 spec, 45 ACP, 40 S&W, yes even the little 380's, 223 and 30-06. Sure it cost money to get set up but I didn't do it all at once.

Next came the damn lead bullets. From suppliers going out of business, suppliers changing mixes etc I started casting my own. I cast for all pistol calibers now. Yes, that cost a few bucks too and takes some time but you can do that fairly cheaply to start off too. I know some don't like lead bullets but they are every bit as accurate as jacketed and don't lead hardly at all if sized right. I can't remember when I last had to go to extra effort to clean my 45 or 38 revolver but a little more frequently my 40 XD needs a little extra attention.

I collected all the brass some of you guys left behind, , so brass cost nothing anymore. (if you're even thinking remotely about reloading start collecting brass now) I only pay for primers and powder. Regardless of what I shoot, within minor limits, I am shooting for $1.50 to $1.75 per 50 rounds for pistol rounds. At those costs I have already paid for my investments in reloading and casting in just a few years.

I don't reload, but I collect all that "left brass" also. The place from where I buy my reloaded ammo gives you a $2 credit for every 100 .45acp casings you bring them. I wind up getting a can of 500 rounds for right around $90-$100.

I'm not so much worried about ammo prices, but I'm astonished that no one is going nuts over the bs! $3.65 per gal. that I am having to pay to send my trucks out there to make a living, diesel is a by product of gas right? So its like paying $1.00 for a Mountain Dew then pissing it back in the bottle and Charging $3.65 for the same thing. I'm really pissed, Pest Control is not a necessity so when gas goes through the roof people prioritize and guess what they worry less about ants and roaches, so it's like a double kick in my balls I have to raise my prices to pay for the bull**** gas and when I do people just say hell with it, so there is my rant and sorry its off topic.

After the last price increase at Wal-Mart, I decided to start reloading my own stuff. I'm starting with 9mm and will do 223 and possibly 7.62x39.
