I bought ammo at Wal Mart tonight....er, lastnight(it's after midnight now). The guy in sporting goods told me that they are trying to pass legislation that will require you to sign for any ammo when you buy it. He also said that they are trying to pass legislation that each box of ammo will have its own serial number with matching serial numbers on the brass. Has anyone heard of these things possibly coming about? Also, in another thread someone said that they had their ID swiped at Walmart when they bought some ammo. There is something very wrong with having your ID swiped or having to sign when you buy ammo. Its nobodys business if you are a law abiding citizen of the age to own a firearm whether you are buying ammo or not. Checking age is understandable, but swiping ID and having to sign means you are being TRACKED!

It has been proposed here in Washington. Usually we have decent gun laws for being a liberal state, but I can see things changing.

nothing wrong with swiping ID for age verification purposes.
we do it at work all the time when selling alcohol, swiping makes sure it's a legit ID, and that the holder is of age. you know you have to show ID, sign and provide your address when buying Sudafed? you can already be tracked plenty well, unless you pay for everything in cash, use a PO box, and only use the internet at starbucks, too. swiping ID does not mean you are being tracked. it means your ID is being verified as not being a fake ID.

This has nothing to do with Wal-Mart, it is a State and/or Federal thing.

I have also heard about this, two problems I see is that lets just say your at the range with one of those new fancy smancy microstamping pistols and brass that has been "registered" to you by the serial number. Now you shoot 100 rounds of it. You would have to find and pick up every darn piece of that brass. Since I started reloading I am lucky if I get 70% of "my" brass back at the end of the day. So thats why you reload. Get some brass now and stack it deep. The other downfall to this new bill is could you imagine the price of factory ammo if they have to stamp every 50 cases with different serial numbers and keep that on file. A box of ammo may go for close to 80 bucks per 50 just my guesstimate

Sounds like Mr Obama's plan.
They're basically trying to make it so expensive to manufacture ammo and/or weapons that noone can afford them. Except the BG's who will just steal them. I had my ID swiped at Target when I bought cold medicine. It was for age ID. I don't have a problem with swiping my ID for ammo, but how will we know it isn't being recorded somewhere. I'm not too concerned with the Big Brother thing. There are so many people and places that have records of us out there already, but where will it all end?

It's legislation being pushed by the Brady Bunch. I work for a state legislator. We got a letter from these folks about three weeks ago looking for local sponsors. In the letter they stated in part, "When the potential criminal buys handgun ammunition..." How's it feel to be considered a "potential criminal"?
