Reloading equipment

New to the forum but I enjoy all the info. Really like all the detail on so many subjects.

Just a quick question about using and storing ALL reloading equipment. I do not currently reload but seeing all the threads on the forum and just using common sense...I think it is going to be a must in order to keep shooting on a regular basis.

My question...can the equipment and all accessories be used and stored in the garage? I live in Texas near Houston. Lots of humidity. I think I know the answer but I'm no expert. Any help is appreciated.

High heat & humidty are not good for powder & primers. You can mitigate the humidity some by putting your powder/preimers in a cabinet w/ a desicant cartridge. I have my stuff in the garage, but our humidity isn't wuite so high.

You should be fine in Houston. I'm just outside New Orleans, all my supplies stay out in an uninsulated shed and have had no problems in over 15 years. I do keep my powder in an insulated plastic sealable cabinet though.

A good trick to get an old, insulated cooler and store your items in there. You can add some desiccant, found and all hardware store, to help absorb some of the humidity.

If you are looking for a decent progressive press, let me know. I may know of someone who has an each Hornady Projector with the Auto Powder option that he may be looking to part with for little money.

I am looking for a "starter kit", something that my simple mind can process and is not too difficult to use. I don't reload now but I am wanting to in the near future. .45 ACP is what I am looking for. I am looking to get my xd .45 compact in the next month or so.

A Lee classic turret would be a good starter. Easy to use & still fast enough to not make loading a chore. I would not buy the kit though as the powder measure & scale are pretty cheap crap IMO. Get the Lee press & dies, a good scale & powder measure from Redding, RCBS or Hornady & a couple of reloading manuals & away you go.
