155gr. Gold Dot .40 S&W

Does anyone know what the factory powder, primer and claimed velocity is for the Speer 155gr. Gold Dot defense load is out of a 4" barrel? I want to load some rounds for practice and comparison as close to factory loads.

Most factory ammo is loaded w/ a non canister powder unavaialbel to the handloader. There are several "recipes" that will get you close to any factory load. I suggest a Speer handloading manual.

My speer manual says

Starting load 5.4g of bullseye 903fps.

Max load 6.0g of bullseye 1023fps.

I use bullseye for my 9mm, 40, and 45. works well in all of them.

what powder do you plan on using?

I've never been a fan of uberfast powders like BE, TG or Clays in the 40s&w, especially for high performance loads. Longshot, BlueDot, PowerPistol & AA#7 will get you to 1200fps w/ a 155gr bullet w/ a decent margin of safety. WSF, Unique & Universal will get you close, 1150fps+ all use std. small pistol primers.
