.45 rifle cartridge?
Hello all,
I'm looking for some information about some .45 rifle rounds. I had a friend of the family toss me some ammo when he stopped by my work last week (I then told him he shouldn't throw live ammo at people). This is in a clip type holder (holds 8 rounds, looks like 2 "C's" facing each other, with a flat base). Reminded me of a Garand clip a bit. Bottom of the round is stamped .45. They are quite green so I have no intention of firing them, just trying to solve a mystery. Shape is near that of a 30-06. Ammo was found in the attic of this guys grandfathers house, and could be quite old. Google hasn't found anything for me so I figured I'd try you guys. Thanks, ~Barbarossa

He posted "Shape is near that of a 30-06." so I'm thinking it's a bottle neck cartridge.
My guess it's a 9.3X62 mauser. The 9.3x62mm cartridge next to the 30-06, 7.92x57mm Mauser, 6.5x55 mm and .308 Winchester.

Royal Laboratory Incendiary Mark I, 1914. Also referred to as "RL Flaming bullet". Used in Martini carbines for early air war against Zeppelins

I may be mistaken on this being a .45
The stamping on this cartridge is WCC / 45 Similar to this pictured below, but with a 45. Western Cartridge Co (WCC). Located in East Alton, IL this private facility was part of the Olin Corp. Western filled many government contracts for caliber 30, caliber 30 carbine, and caliber 45 ammunition during WW II as well as shotshells and 22 rim fire ammunition. The East Alton plant continued to fill government contracts after WW II and still operates at the present time. 7.92x57mm Mauser looks the closest, but this has a longer neck, more flatly tapered bullet, and is smaller in diameter.
