WWB 147gr. JHP any good for carry?
Someone gave me a box of 50 9mm, 147gr. Winchester white box jacketed hollow points. Are these any good/reliable for my carry gun? I've shot plenty of their target 115gr rounds in the past that were flawless.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but a 147gr bullet will have less powder inside, a slower velocity but it will have more energy than say a 115gr bullet?

I use them and have put a hundred rounds or so of the 147gr Winchesters through my 9mm...I have had no problems. I was worried the extra weight might not actuate the slide properly, but it works fine...I checked with Winchester and it has ~930 fps muzzle velocity. So for me, low velocity, heavy wieght, means it won't penetrate and keep going, which is a concern in my house with family around etc etc...I do not have any info on expansion, though.

My XD eats the 147 JHP WWB without any issues but I would still stick with SD specific ammo for carry.

I carry those exact same ones... shoots great... read some on them.. they seem to be just as good as the expensive HP Defense rounds... I have no reason to doubt them!

it really depends on what you are planning to fire them out of. If you have a SC or any short barrel pistol, I would stay away from the heavier 147gr rounds.
Yes, a 147 will travel slower, but it has a lot more mass. Same idea around the .45 acp. It only travels at about 800 fps, but it's throwing a 230gr bullet down toward the bad guy. More mass is better IMO. Throw a walnut at someone at 80mph, or throw a baseball at them at 60mph, the baseball is going to do a helluva lot more damage.
