9mm home defense neighbor safe ammo
I am a new XD owner and this is my first firearm. I am looking for suggestions on 9mm ammo for home defense that would be good for use in a townhouse. I have neighbors on either side of me and I have heard that there are different kinds of ammo to suite this situation. I know some claim to fragment on impact with drywall and other surfaces but I know anything can happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

I'm no ammo expert but you'd definitely want JHP (jacketed hollow point). I dont know what bullet weight you'd want though but I have Winchester Silvertips which I think are 115grn.

there are frangible rounds, that are supposed to break up on impact...but they are expensive and i wouldn't rely on anything that i haven't fired a good number of rounds out of my gun.
I use 147gr hollowpoints in my 9mm, and i'm not that worried about over-penetration unless i put a round or two through the window instead of into a wall or door.

Even frangible rounds like the Glaser will penetrate several layers of drywall. Most JHP will stop or slow significantly after hitting solid surfaces like 2x studs, brick & stucco. Any round claiming not to penetrate drywall isn't likely to penetrate a BG either. A light, high speed JHP is less likely to over penetrate a BG & probably building mat'l. as well. You could go with Glasers upfront & a good JHP following if it makes you feel better.

i would say check out the glaser slugs..... they are expensive, and like stated before, i would want to fire atleast 12rds to see wat exactly it would do to the walls in my house.

ammunitiontogo.com Delivered my ammo in 3days on the cheapest ground shipment. They are fast. Dunno about cheapest. But they have both the HST, and the Ranger Talon SXTs(which I opted for in my carry/defense mags).
