40 S&W CCI shotshells

Has anyone seen or encountered this kind of ammo? They're like mini shotgun shells for .40 caliber pistols. Do you think that they are safe to fire through a precious XD?

from what I have read on here (if I remember correctly) they are safe to use but require hand cycling (not enough power)

BUT- I COULD BE WRONG!

in reality theyre meant to be a 'varmint' or snake load.

that said, ive fired them thru a .22 ..... you should see what they do to a target!

I actually have one as my first round in one of my .22 mags - i figure (wrongly or rightly) that it will momentarily stun a target so i can get another shot off. im thinking about doing the same thing for an HD 9mm magazine -- shotshell first and the remainder being gold dots.

Yep. That's about the only gun I'd carry them in. I do the same as you--first round in a .22 magazine--when I am mowing the lawn.

They are also good in a .22 rifle.

I havent fired them in the 40 but I have in the 22, I think their effective range would be somewhere between 0 feet to 10 feet, would you think so? I remember shooting a paper target at 10 yards and I think I only counted 2 pellets the rest didnt hit it, this was back in 1997...so I dont remember much.

i was out this weekend and shot 2 of my shot shells from maybe 10 and 15 feet
one ejected and the other one didn't so i guess that is hit or miss the first one was stuck with the slide pinched on it, as far as effective range you better be close, 10 feet was ok but my buddy shot one of his out of his glock at about 3-4 feet and that was good about 6 to 8 inch circle enough to piss off a snake if you feel comfortable standing that close heh
