Reload 9mm: worth it?

Hey there. I'm looking into reloading soon. I've used some lighter .45acp reloads that were scary accurate out of our 1911's. I'm wondering if I would see a noticeable increase in accuracy if I reload 9mm for my XD9 Service. Also- we've all heard that 9mm ammo is so cheap, so why reload to save money? Well, it's not so cheap any more. Sure, I'd like to save, but I'm more interested in a real accuracy improvement over the Remington UMC fmj I've used lately. Thanks for your input.

How much do you shoot? If you really shoot a lot, it might be worth it. If accuracy is that important it could be worth it as well but the average person might not feel the need to reload 9mm. Others on this site might have some good info for you.

jdavionic- thanks for the link. It didn't show up in my search.

I shoot indoor PPC. I've been using my S.A. Loaded 1911 for the "Combat" part, and the XD9 for the "Off-Duty" section, but I'd kind of like to use just one gun for both... the XD9. I do go through a fair amount of ammo. Remember, though, that increased accuracy is more important to me than some cost savings. I know that my XD isn't a target pistol. But past experience with my 1911 has shown me that improved ammo may still help a lot.

Yes, you can save money loading 9mm & yes you can make more accurate ammo than factory. Factory ammo is required to function in all pistols w/ an acceptable level of accuracy. You can taylor your ammo to your pistol. I have a USP40 that shoots WW155grSTHP into 4" @ 15yds, pretty crappy accuracy for $30/50. I can load the same bullet or a 155gr equiv. & get 1" accuracy for $10-$15/50. It's the same for 9mm but you save less. There is no downside to handloading your own ammo. You can go mild to wild & everything inbetween.

i dont know about reloading 9mm but I've calculated over and over the price of a 40cal and it seems like I'll be saving 0.01/per round if i was to buy from Two Gun Press. Their a shop located in San Fran. They sell their reloads for 200rounds per 33 bucks which comes out to be 0.16 each round, compared to my price it'll be 0.17 each.

yup - is the .17 a round is WWB? While ive recently been saving spent 9mm i just cant seem to get the numbers to come out in favour of reloading for 9mm(in terms of monetary value, accuracy is another story). .40 or .45 yes, but 9mm

But that is for remanuf. ammo. I won't shoot anyones remanuf. ammo. Just too many bad things happening w/ some of them. Cost of 9mm can be much cheaper than WWWB @ Wally but you have to shop & buy your components in bulk. If you are buying 1K primer a pound of powder & 500 bullets at a time, you may actually be paying more.

Fred makes good point. I don't trust anyone else's reloads and I buy in bulk, i.e. multiple thousands.
