Bulk ammo

What type of manufactured ammo are you guys shooting in your AR's ?? I see that Wolf ammo is readily available but has steel casings, worried about "chamber wear". I have a thousand rounds of UMC ammo that I bought 20yrs ago for my mini-14. That was bought for $12 per 100 rounds. Just getting reacquainted with "bulk ammo" since I purchased a Colt R6530. What is the best deal now ???................Dfan

I buy bulk Wolf or Barnaul 5.56 ammo. Hasn't slowed my Colt or RRA down a bit.

if you shoot much at all Wolf is the only answer.

I only shoot 200 rounds a month (1 match a month) and was spending 75$ a month before switching to Wolf. Now it costs me 40$.

Now if you're wealthy, you can shoot Match ammo at 700$ per K.

Don't worry about wear. The money you'll save will pay for the parts.

You can find S&B online for 350 a thousand, but everything else is higher.

Wolf is <200$ per K online.

If you don't shoot much and are looking for a cheap load, Remington UMC is about 7.50 per 20 (375 a thousand) at Wal-mart.

I cant bring myself to bust open the surplus battle pack I've ferretted away.

Buy Wolf. The big time shooters in my club all use it.

Wolf isn't going to wear out your chamber, only the bullet goes into the chamber. The supposed issue with wolf is extractor wear, guys have shot 10k+ rounds of wolf with no probs. Even if it was the money you save is much more than a >$10 and 2min swap time an extractor will cost you.

I'll agree with you save one exception. The entire cartridge fills the chamber, not just the bullet.

I would dare say the bullet is the only part of the cartidge NOT in the chamber... at least not touching any part of the chamber.

I have seen stuck/ripped Wolf cases, and worn/broken extractors supposedly due to Wolf ammo, but still... the savings are worth the cost IMO

I have my doubts about extractor wear from shooting Wolf. Those cases aren't exactly the hardest steel, probably not much harder than brass, if at all. I know the bolt is much harder steel than a round of Wolf.

The main problem with wolf is that its dirty, If you clean your weapon its not a problem but if you dont it will gum up the chamber. Steel doesnt expand in the chamber like brass does so more gas and fouling get around the seal. A good chamber brush is a necessity.

This is true... The steel wolf cases are decently soft. I'd worry about the damn dirty ammo fouling my AR past the point of operability before I'd worry about wear on the extractor.

Better yet, get into handloading and roll your own. Cheaper/cleaner/more accurate than wolf
