barnes banded solids

ok i just ordered these and i got them in today they are a solid spitzer made out of solid copper/zinc alloy (brass)
well they are like these except for they have the pointed spitzer tip.
now i havent had a chance to load or shoot them yet but from looking at and measuring and weighing the different rounds the consisnacy is AMAZING i have never had any bullets that every single on is EXACTLY the same. well i just thought i would post this so if anyone is on the fence about it maybe an opinion from someone that has nothing to gain might get them on the barnes side. i will post some of my results when i get the loads figured out. im really wondering what the armor penetrating abilities of these rounds and i will be sure to post those tests also along side of regular lead core rounds. just so you know its for my 7mm rem mag. and it will be a while before i can do the tests my shooting spot is muddy pond right now but i will get it done

FWIW, I shoot the blunt nose ones in my 404jeffery, it's my buffalo rifle. Penetration in the big bores is impressive. I've not tried steel, but even a soft nose @ high vel. will go through mild steel plate. I have tried to slow them down in wetpack though. 38" of wet phone books showed little resistance to the 400gr solids @ 2200fps. Keep in mind that 20" will stop a 160gr Nosler partition @ 3200fps.

well i was very suprised that my 17gr ballistic tip 17 hmr went right through 1/8" steel and 2" of solid oak. from what i have read the faster a bullet is going the better it will penetrate steel so since this bullet is only 140gr i think it will do some pretty good damage as far as barrier penetration goes.

so it seems a light fast bullet penetrates steel better but a slow heavy bullet seems to penetrate flesh better (ie 185gr 45 aco compared to a 230gr 45)

i also shot some handgun bullets at steel plates and the 40 s&w was able to punch through the 1/8" steel plate(just barely) and the 45 acp just left a big dent. but i bet if shooting ballistics gel the 45 would go deeper
