reloading 380 auto

This is a discussion on reloading 380 auto within the The Ammo Can forums, part of the Armory Talk category; ok i know xd does not come in 380 lol . but , can you trim a 9mm case to 380 length and load it ...

ok i know xd does not come in 380 lol . but , can you trim a 9mm case to 380 length and load it for the 380 auto ? . a 380 is after all a 9mm kurz or 9 mm short . i have not started reloading but a friend and i may as he and i each have a xd40 and he has an xd45 also and if we do start reloading i will also load 380 auto for my keltec p3at .

Personally, I would just get some .380 brass and that way you won't have to worry about mixups. You would not need a whole lot, and it is not that expensive. I bought about 500 pieces about 8 years ago, and I am still using them. Also, I believe that the base is just a tad smaller than the 9x19, but I would measure to check that.

I believe the answer is no. When I started reloading .380 Autos on my Dillon XL650, I needed to change the base plate. The 9mms do not fit in the .380 Auto base plate.

I looked at some manuals(Lee and Nosler) of case dimensions.

9x17, 380 Auto, 380ACP, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Browning.

9x18, Makarov.

9x19, 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum.

They have different heads on the case. 9x18 uses a different bullet.
