recommend some home defense ammo

i have been looking at the ammo at my local gun store(mostly federal hydrashok)

what does everyone recommend for home defense ammo?

are the 9mm 124 gr hydrashok's any good?

i like federal, but wouldnt mind trying out some other brands too.

I have read from various forums that Hydrashoks have been surpassed by other more current designs.
Check out the ones in this link:

I picked up a bunch of Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP's from a seller on GunBroker.

I have done some testing with wet phone books and wet and dry sand I dont know how good they really work but in 9mm and 45 the hydrashocks only expanded 1/2 the time the hornady taps always expanded and golddots expanded everytime in the phone books but not in sand

Hornady TAP has a real good reputation. I asked a guy at a gunshow who's booth was solely devoted to ammunition what the best defensive ammo was, he said hands down Hornady TAP. Heard that from a lot of other folks too.
