Win Partition Gold Rifle ammo
Has anyone used the Partition Gold rounds from Winchester?
These are the rounds with the Nosler/Winchester "combined technology" bullets that are coated. I'm working on sighting in a new (to me) 300 Win Mag, and at the same time playing with different rounds until I decide what I want to shoot. My most recent trip to the range, I had a few rounds of Federal left and then a new box of the Win Partition Gold. I thought my previous range trip had ended with the scope pretty close, so I shot a couple of rounds of the Federal and they grouped OK, but were about 4" high at 100 yds. I made some turns on the scope to bring them down, and fired 2 more, which were almost down where I wanted. I only had one round of the Federal left, so I shot it, then started shooting the Winchester to see where they would hit. They were scattered all over the target face! I stopped, cleaned the barrel, let everything cool down and then tried again. Still going everywhere. I did not have any other type of rounds to go back to to see if it really was the ammo. I've heard people say that some ammo may not shoot well through a particular gun, but I've never experienced that, and never expected anything to this degree. Anyone have a similar experience with a particular ammo? I did check the scope to be sure it was not moving (a problem I had on my previous range trip). I am quite certain I was not flinching (with all the layers I had to wear this morning to stay warm, I hardly knew the gun went off except for that ringing in my ears I expect it will be after Christmas now before I can get some different ammo and try this again. |
