Light 40sw loads

I want to teach my wife how to shoot the XD, but I think the recoil with standard loads my be too much for her. Does anyone offer a light or lower recoil load in .40 S&W?

I don't know about factory .40 but Salilus (member on here) loads 'em light for IDPA. You might try to hook up with a reloader in your local area.

Even my light reloads in 40 are pretty snappy. Get her a 9 if she doesn't like recoil.

Hey, just noticed this thread.

I dont know of any factory that makes a soft .40, they say that the lighter the bullet weight the less the recoil but who knows. Whats it shooting out of?

I ask this because my fiancee would rather shoot full power 40 outta the xd tac, then her M&P 9mm Sub because the Xd has more for her to hand onto. Its been a while so I cant recall what full power .40 feels like.

Do you handload?

.40 is snappy, about same as 1911 .45, and I can handle both. I even fired the .40 one handed last week, and no it didn't jump out of my hand LOL

Another option is a guide rod and heavier spring. I like the way a 22# spring tamed the 40 loads in my XD40 service.

I shoot downloaded .40 for USPSA. To get an XD to run with light .40 you have to do some work. I had to lighten the slide, change the recoil spring, and tinker with the load a bit for it to run. Unless you compete it isn't worth it.

my GF has no problem shooting my 40 but she also LOVES shooting my 45.

rent a 9mm and let her shoot that for a few trips to the range and then move her up.
allthough i did buy her a 9mm just because its cheaper to shoot and holds more rounds so she had more chances to hit the guy and follow up shots would be faster
