ammo price hike rumor?
I heard from 2 diferent people that ammo will be going up in price around the 12th of this month . Is this rumor or is it true? The guys told me that it was from copper, brass and metal going up in price that makes ammo go up , but they said it would go up like %10-15 . Any truth to this?

What I have heard was there was to be 4 price hikes in 2007, the third of which happened September 1st. Not sure when the last one will be but will most likely happen since the first 3 did

Greetings,
Check the Copper, tin and lead commodities prices graphs for the last year and you'll see they are going higher steadily (Except for a little dip 4 months ago). Moreover, the US govt outbided all importers 4 months ago and bought for billions in ammo (I do not remember the number, but it is a staggering number). I read last month the US Govt passed a big order to a Bulgarian (or Czech or Romanian, can't remember and can't find the reference maybe someone will find it) to supply Irak small arms ammunitions. Last May, 9mm Winchester at Wally was around 12.50$, last August it was around 14.50$ and last time I checked (Mid-sept) it was over 15$. I would say it is steady hikes. Thank you |

Ammo prices do not jump up over night like gas prices. Many people have just recently seen the 2-4-07 price increase at their local Wang Mart or other box store.
Since there is less ammo in the supply chain today than we had this last winter I expect to see the 9-1-07 increases to come faster than the 2-07 increase. The 1-08 increase will hit even faster. Also keep in mind that these are not the dealer increases. They are the mfg. Price increases are not a good thing for us retailers. If the consumer can not buy my products, I do not make any money. There could be other increases just from the supply and demand at the dealer level. I think by this time next year we should have a better idea of what to expect on ammo availibility and prices. |

not likely to be this month. Expect it in another month or two. Buyers negotiate contracts to buy the raw mat'l (copper, brass, lead, tin, etc) by the fiscal quarter. They all run on roughly the same schedule so I would expect the next price increase mid nov to dec.

crap, there goes my post. Second try.
I'm willing to bet that it is not a rumor. With many 'third' world countries becoming more and more industrialized, as well as current supplies being eaten up by instability in the middle east and elsewhere, we can expect to see the prices of raw materials continue to rise (i.e. lead, copper, brass, steel, aluminum, all the basic components of ammunition). Steel and Iron is on the rise and it's been for a while. Steel & Iron Composite Value: 1667.3 Today's Change: +3.09% S&P 500: +0.96% Copper's on the Rise. Copper Composite Value: 2174.6 Today's Change: +1.89% S&P 500: +0.96% Aluminum as well Aluminum Composite Value: 1413.1 Today's Change: +2.15% S&P 500: +0.96%Industrial metals and minerals are on the rise as a whole. ndustrial Metals & Minerals Composite Value: 1530.5 Today's Change: +2.01% S&P 500: +0.96%
