New guy question about GR count

What is the difference between 115gr and 125gr 9mm ammo? I was thinking it was how much punch it packs. I found some 125gr Ultramax round nose for target practice ammo for 6.99 on sale from 12.00. I have only put 100 rounds through my XD 9 and I am still learning about the basics of handguns. Thanks.

The diff. is 10gr & about 50fps. Most 115gr FMJ runs about 1200fps, 124gr FMJ about 1150fps. For practice ammo, makes no real diff. You should practice w. a laod that is close to your JHP, SD/HD load.

The difference is the weight of the actual bullet. A heavier bullet will travel slower all other factors being equal. You will probably get more felt recoil with a heavier bullet too.

Grains is a unit of measurement. There are 7000 grains in one pound. So a 115gr bullet is 115/7000 of a pound.

Heavier bullets are usually slower than lighter ones. Which to use use depends more on what you like. I like slower heavier bullets.

IMHO 50 fps is not going to make any difference.
