Cor Bon Ammo

I have been looking at defensive ammo for my XD 45ACP Cmpact and I have come across the Cor Bon series of ammo. The PowR'Ball and DPX ammo has caught my attention, but the price of this ammo is more than others in the same class. I was wondering if the Cor Bon is ammo is worth the price.

I performs well, But in my opinion it is no better that Speer Gold Dots, rangers, or Hornady double taps...

the dpx might be but the powerball is crap stay away from that. i personally like heavy rounds for pistols the dpx is good for punching through glass since its solid copper it cant spererate but it is on the light side since its solid copper. i carry winchester ranger t's they are the new version of the black talons you can get them at cabelas for 15 per 50 of 40s&w thats not much more then cheap fmj rounds or speer gold dots are great most cops carry the gold dots they are pretty pricey so i know the LEO didnt chose based on cost but on performance

GoldDots for .45 ACP aren't that bad. I paid around 17 or 18 both times when I picked up 200 gr. +P and 230 gr. in GoldDots. I haven't been to a place like Cabela's for the ammo though.

CorBon makes good stuff. The Powerballs are designed to feed like FMJ's yet open like JHP's. It is a great concept but I found someone who does it better... Federal LE EFMJ.

These are very reliable, expand beautifully, are effective in a whole range of circumstances, and they feed like FMJ because they are FMJ's. You get 100% weight which isn't true for the Powerballs. The bullet is 200 grain with 1030 fps/470 ft-lbs. It is simply superior to a Powerball in almost every way.

Corbon JHP is no better and no worse than the other +P competitors out there. So I won't talk about it. Good round but not superior. For this class, I like Federal HST and Ranger T... both of them are HAIRY little buzzsaws. Gold Dots are excellent also... these are all PROVEN winners.

CorBon DPX is simply terrific. I use DPX in my .380 but it is so good as to be overpenetrating in .45 ACP. Other companies make a solid copper deep penetrator but I don't think any are better than DPX.

The exotic stuff like Glasers don't really interest me. I suppose they are good for what they are designed to do but I don't use any frangibles.

Anyway that's my $02 on CorBon. I like their products and use some for everyday carry.

Is the bonded Federal ammo better than the none bonded ammo?

i would also recomend the federal EFMJ however i only cary those in the winter when a JHP is more likely to get cloged by heavy clothing

The nice thing about the HST is that tests show that it doesn't seem to clog. Blossoms out very nicely into that nasty nairy petal like the Talon. Darn good design.

BMFOTP... I don't see the need for me to have bonded. That is better for penetrating glass and the like. I don't see that as all that important for ordinary self defense. I think a duty officer would have a lot more use for it. My $.02

Garden-variety Cor-Bon JHP 200-grain +P's in the .45, Cor-Bon DPX in the 9mm for me...

All the tests I have seen on Cor-Bon DPX show excellent penetration and expansion even through heavy clothing. The one thing about Cor-Bon I noticed while firing my test rounds (I always test ammo for reliable functioning before I carry it) is that it feels like it shoots softer than many other rounds I've shot.

And I wouldn't worry about DPX not being effective against hard targets. My test was a 8" thick hard oak beam. I had penetration all the way though.

Most ammo, if shot into the proper areas will stop an attacker, but Cor-Bon is a high quality ammo and I think the DPX is the best they offer.

Just my opinion.
