I carry DPXs in my XD-45 and have shot them into gell along with the Fed HST. The 185g DPX went about 1.5" further into the gell than the HST 230g. They make some some nasty cuts in the expantion chamber. Tghe HST is a great round also.

I also like the lighter weight of the 185s in the gun when I have 14 rounds

My load is the DPX

Thanks to everyone for your inputs into my question. The Cor Bon series of ammo is just to expensive compared to other manufacturers. I know money shouldnt be an issue when buying equipment that a persons life depends on, but other rounds in the same category are much cheaper with the same performance level. At this time I am leaning towards Federal and Winchester.

The bullet is 200 grain with 1030 fps/470 ft-lbs. It is simply superior to a Powerball in almost every way.

Bree,

This is the reason I havent made the move to Federal EFMJ.

Actually that's a cheap price for premium ammunition. I usually expect to pay a buck a round for the good stuff. Plus, I shoot maybe a mag of premium every two to four weeks so a box lasts a long time.

Heck 20 rounds of .45 ACP Corbon DPX is $25!! The EFMJ is 50 rounds for $34. That's a lot better deal.

Just how much of your defensive ammo do you plan on shooting?

I can tell you this much, if you actually have a situation where you are forced to shoot someone you won't be thinking "$1, $1, $1...dang this is expensive..., $1, $1....

But if your bargain ammo fails you in any way you will be thinking "Why didn't I get the good stuff!"

I'm not saying Federal or Winchester is junk, I'm just saying that price should be the last thing you notice when you decide on ammo for your defensive gun.

And I do think that the extra Cor-Bon charges is worth it. Here's a pic of what they look like after being shot. It's a .44 round but you get the idea. The stuff in the center is cloth from the 2 layers of canvas they shot through before the gelatin.

True. I place my life in it's hands daily. I trust the Cor-Bon more than the Speer. Just my opinon, but most importantly, buy a box of each and see which is more accurate/reliable in you weapon (alllmost all of these are good choices...) and stick with it! Each of my carry weapons have different loads -- reason why? They all shoot differently and each likes something different (or so I've found...)

I plan on shooting at least a box every two weeks. I plan on training and shooting with what works best in my weapon and what I carry in my weapon. What is the point of knowing what works best and is most effective in my weapon if I am not planning on shooting that ammo as much as possible so I am accumosted to the weapon and ammo when that once in a life time situation should happen. I am going to buy the Federal EFMJ rounds. I just wanted to let Bree know that the price has gone up. I also have on order Winchester Bonded and SXT, Hornady Tap, Speer Gold Dots, Federal Bonded and Cor Bon PowRball and DPX ammo. Price is an issue, but the joy of shooting my XD is worth the price.

Try them all and see which you like. I have shot almost all of the ones you mentioned. If you hit a perp with any of them bad things will happen to the perp.

I haven't found HSTs or EFMJ in a shop around here and I'd like to try them. The GoldDots are proven and probably one of the most widely used rounds by law enforcement. When it comes down to it, can we all agree that shot placement is more important than the name stamped on the empty casings? I'm not saying we're in an argument or anything.

Just get a few boxes of whatever you're interested in carrying and start testing it for proper feeding, firing, and ejecting in your gun.

Talking Shot Placement

If everyone was a cool calm person in a critical situation then shot placement would win hands down. However, the average person is going to end up just slapping the trigger when they are confronted with a critical situation. The average person will be happy to just get hits on the BG when the situation goes critical. So bullet selection is as important as shot placement for the average person who doesnt spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours training for a critical situation. I know that most premium ammunition will get the job done. I am just trying to find the round that will get the job done in as effiecent a manner as possible for me and my weapon.
