Exactly! While not recommended, it is completely safe if done slowly. As far as decomissioning live ammo. It's best to pull the bullets & dump the powder. Even spraying WD40 around the primer pocket won't guarantee it won't fire. Buy an inertia/hammer type puller or give them to a handloader that should have one.

Just throw them in the trash. no big deal. If you'd like dab a little motor oil on the primer area, or soak them in oil, that will render the primer inert. I've thrown small amounts of ammo away, not much to worry about.

I have deprimed live primers and even upside down live primers in a press without any issues.
Alot of times the primer is slightly damaged so don't feed it back into the machine or it could jam the press. If I feel like it I will save it for last and manually put the primer in that stage or just toss it. It sucks to break a 100 pack for one primer but then you just keep it aside for any future screw ups and you have 99 more. |

Oil destroys primers better than anything and as said, just toss them in the trash. A small round popping in the incinerator or a landfill isnt going to hurt anything.

Wow, I had no idea it was that easy to render a primer inert.
Thanks, guys. |
