Barring a hit to the brain, the only way to force incapacitation is to cause sufficient blood loss that the subject can no longer function, and that takes time. Even if the heart is instantly destroyed, there is sufficient oxygen in the brain to support full and complete voluntary action for 10-15 seconds.

Kintetic energy does not wound. Temporary cavity does not wound. The much discussed “shock” of bullet impact is a fable and “knock down” power is a myth. The critical element is penetration. The bullet must pass through the large, blood bearing organs and be of sufficient diameter to promote rapid bleeding. Penetration less than 12 inches is too little, and, in the words of two of the participants in the 1987 Wound Ballistics Workshop, “too little penetration will get you killed.”

I think you may want to investigate this a little. I haven't seen anything in the Ohio AG's CCW regs that implies there's a limitation on the number of mags you can carry.

+1...I have a copy right here and I can't find any such restriction. Maybe I overlooked it in the fine print, but I don't think so.

spare mags in ohio CCW

[quote=tomfoolery;724874]i live in ohio and i carry a spare mag....hmm...im gonna have to look into that one.
Didn't mean to start a war. You can carry spare mags in Ohio. But as the vendors in my neck of the woods get nervous when they see a gun. Thus MY RULE no spare mag to have to hide. When I carry, only me and God should know I am armed. Total concealment. A spare is nice, but something else that can give you away. And let's face it- FBI says most gun battles are under 3 shots fired. That's a double tap on one of the targets. And trust me if you can it your target in 11 rounds - that spare mag aint worth the hassle-David

115 gr 9PB JHP is an awesome bullet, and doesn't cost much.
124 gr HydraShock another
124 gr HST (i like HydraShock better)

if your using a 4" barrel no need for the extra stress of a +P round.

go ahead... flame the no +P comment.

If you can conceal the gun -- which is huge -- you can conceal a spare mag, which is small, flat, easy to conceal.

Massad Ayoob, in "Gun Digest Combat Handgunnery" 5th Ed. notes LEO depts. find their best results with 115 gr. JHP at about 1150 fps or better. Ayoob likes Gold Dot.

Ayoob also notes the recent trend toward multiple assailants, making a spare mag a good idea.

It's not the ammount of rounds you have for everyone. Some carry a spare mag for use incase of a Malf. that either requires a new mag or would be quicker to clear if you just drop the mag.
